Reinforcing Global Environmental Transparency and Supporting Developers in Reaching Global Benchmarks
Mr. Watchara Siriritthichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., announced that Nippon Paint has received the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) International certification under the International EPD System, becoming the first paint brand in Thailand to be certified under this globally recognized framework.
EPD International is a global standard for environmental product declarations, widely recognized across multiple countries. The certification is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) process that evaluates environmental impacts throughout the entire lifecycle of a product, from raw material sourcing to end-of-life management. All environmental data has been independently verified by TÜV SÜD, a globally recognized certification body, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and verifiability in accordance with international standards.
“This achievement reinforces Nippon Paint’s role as a global paint brand from Japan, operating across many countries while consistently upholding international quality standards. Our technologies and product standards have long been developed to exceed baseline industry requirements. Achieving EPD International certification, therefore, reflects our commitment to bringing global standards of environmental transparency and responsibility to Thailand’s paint industry. Through this milestone, we aim to support the advancement of Thailand’s construction industry toward sustainable global standards,” said Mr. Watchara.

The EPD International certification obtained by Nippon Paint can also be used as supporting documentation for green building certifications, including LEED v4.1. This enables developers, project owners, contractors, architects, and design professionals to manage environmental performance data more effectively, reduce compliance risks, and elevate project standards toward global benchmarks.
Ms. Natchanan Jiwamawin, Senior Manager of the Business Assurance Department at TÜV SÜD Thailand, highlighted that sustainability has become an increasingly important priority within the construction industry. As a result, environmental certification standards are becoming more rigorous and globally aligned. Industry stakeholders are actively seeking partners that demonstrate genuine environmental responsibility and measurable positive impact. Consequently, EPD International, one of the earliest global standards focused on in-depth environmental impact assessment for construction materials, has become increasingly popular among architects and real estate developers.
The certification covers 4 key product categories, including primers, matte topcoats, semi-gloss finishes, and gloss finishes, as well as several flagship products such as Nippon Paint AirCare, an innovative ultra-premium interior paint designed to support well-being and healthier indoor environments, Nippon Paint Weatherbond, an advanced ultra-premium exterior coating engineered for long-lasting weather protection,and Nippon Paint 5100 Wall Sealer.
